Malcolm Kellogg suffered severe burns to his upper body in the blaze on Blue Mountain near Autumn Oaks Drive and Box Elder Court on Friday, Nov. 8, according to the Lower Paxton Bureau of Police.
The fire started after Kellogg, who was previously cited for illegally dumping trash at the same location, allegedly lit the debris on fire instead of removing it as directed. The flames spread quickly, endangering nearby homes and residents, police said.
More than 70 firefighters from 23 fire departments battled the blaze, which burned under power lines and took hours to bring under control.
The brush fire burned over six acres of land in Lower Paxton Township, according to the police.
Kellogg was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. Despite the severity of the charges, police said Kellogg will not be taken into custody due to his medical condition.
On Wednesday, Nov. 13, Kellogg was charged with felonies for arson endangering persons, arson endangering property, and risking catastrophe. He is scheduled to be arraigned at a preliminary hearing once his condition improves.
The case remains active and under investigation, according to Lower Paxton police.
